Be Here Now: The “Re-Do”

Ladies,

The quote “Be Here Now” makes me think of Ram Das, the spiritual leader from the ’70s (and beyond) who coined this quote, and who also wrote a book by the same name.

This quote, “Be Here Now”, rings in my ears each day as I sometimes find myself racing through my life.

Take today for example. Today, I took myself to the gorgeous woods for a lovely jog. As often happens when I start running, I started processing, thinking, thinking, and processing. All while gloating to myself that “Some of my very best thoughts happen when I run!”.

But here’s the catch: all too often I find myself not present where I am at that very moment: in the magnificent woods, failing to take in its splendor or that of the breathtaking lake.

“Oooops, totally missed it!” I think to myself. Or maybe I even sometimes find myself doing the same thing in conversation with a friend, not fully present, my headspace filled with my biggest concerns for that day…

…thinking, thinking, thinking…never-ending thinking…💭

.

Sound familiar?

.

Today, I missed the beauty of my run. 🦋 But as I left, I promised myself that I NEEDED a re-do today and that it would happen when the sun was going down. In addition to missing the morning, I didn’t also want to miss the last part of this incredible gift of a day.

So I didn’t. I packed up my dogs, my daughter, and myself and headed back to the woods.

I re-did the woods today. And I was astounded by what I truly saw when I stopped my run, and stopped my monkey brain (as they call it in yoga).

.

Here’s what I experienced.

☀️ I saw rays of the sun gleaming through the trees and hitting the leaves that had fallen on the root system of a tree, looking no less beautiful than the most spectacular piece of artwork I had ever seen.

🍁 I heard NOTHING but total silence, which was only disturbed by the faint sounds of crunching golden leaves beneath our feet.

👩‍👧My daughter and I always thrive together in nature -no plan; no agenda. We just talked and connected in peace and in beauty, with ease and with grace.

Next time, I promised myself I would catch myself before having to do a re-do. I have the power to slow it down, to focus on my breath even during a run, a sprint through my errands, or a walk with a friend. I have the power to slow it down.

I suggest you work on slowing it down, too. To truly SEE what you are looking at, to LISTEN to what you are hearing, and to EXPERIENCE what unfolds for you.

It may just take your breath away.

Be here NOW. We aren’t always given the chance for a re-do.

To your sublime health!

Much Love,
Jen
